I’m so glad to learn that exercise throughout the same day is cumulative. Tell me if you’ve ever experienced this? Have you ever wanted to go for a walk or a run before work but for whatever reason you just couldn’t ‘get out the door’ and so you lost that window of opportunity? Have you then felt discouraged or mad at yourself? I certainly have. Sometimes we can get so set on the exact exercise that we plan to do that if we miss it we feel like we’ve failed. We begin to beat ourselves up about it and sometimes we even begin to sabotage ourselves. Not a good place to be!
Don’t allow this situation to mess with your mind! Instead, if it happens, choose to look for other ways throughout the day to make up for it. Just yesterday, I had to do this myself. I realized my early morning 20 minute walk was NOT going to happen so instead of letting my mind take me down that other path I chose to take 5 minutes – that’s right – only 5 minutes – and I did 10 pushups, 25 situps, 12 leg raises each leg, 10 arm swings each arm, a 20-second side-plank and then I was off & running knowing that at least I had done something good for my body. Then – on purpose – throughout the day I ‘moved my body’ whenever I could.
The following are a few examples. Instead of using the intercom to ask Dave a question I walked to his office. Before I sat down at my desk I did a couple of squats. Have you ever done pushups against a wall instead of the floor? When I got to the grocery store I parked far away from the door instead of trying to find the closest spot! Then I grabbed a basket instead of a cart…that was a great arm workout! Instead of calling my family for supper from the kitchen I ran downstairs to the family room & asked them to come.
When you consciously think about it there are all sorts of ways throughout the day that you can exercise and ‘move’ your body. I’d love to hear some of your great ideas. Go ahead – write and post them for the rest of us to see. How have you been looking after yourself, living a more active lifestyle, and keeping the new leaner ‘YOU’ trim and slim??
You see… every bit counts. You don’t have to get a gym membership to keep your new body size. (Unless you want to!) You don’t have to work out an hour a day. (Unless you want to!) Your movement throughout the day is cumulative!
Remember that it is the choices that you make every day that determines whether or not you will have, or will keep a healthy and lean body that is full of life & energy. It really is up to you!!
